Nuestros Colores Mural Opening and Celebration with Ari de la Mora and La Libélula

July 29 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for a celebration of diversity, resilience, and creativity as we unveil Nuestros Colores, a vibrant and meaningful new public mural in Vancouver! This mural is the result of several workshops led by Mexican artist Ari de la Mora, who collaborated with a group of twelve Latin American youth. Organized by La Libélula Cooperative, the workshops focused on discussing the youths’ dual experiences, the challenges of being immigrants, their ties to their native countries, and the process of adjusting to their new home.

Come celebrate the culmination of this incredible journey with us. At 8:00 p.m., the renowned Mariachi Los Dorados will perform, and there will be many more surprises!

Time: 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

About La Libélula Cooperative

La Libélula Cooperative was born out of our desire to connect with other migrants from Latin America. We began by creating spaces for connection but were drawn to several questions about Latin American communities in British Columbia. For example: How many are we? Where are we? What do we do? What do we want? Who are we? What brings us together? What do we need? One thing we know for sure is that none of these questions have simple or singular answers. We know that there are many gaps in the information available about Latin American communities living in British Columbia. Through La Libélula Cooperative, we want to contribute to conversations about Latin American representation in British Columbia to increase inclusivity and opportunities for Latin Americans living here.

About Ari de la Mora

Ari De La Mora is an artist born and raised in Mexico, now based in Vancouver, Canada. She holds a degree in Advertising with a specialization in Creative Visualization. When she moved to Canada, she started to collaborate with the Vancouver Art Gallery, having the opportunity to become a Tour Liaison with school groups. De La Mora has taken several painting courses and classes at Emily Carr Institute. However, most of her learning process has come from exploration and practice. She analyzes symbols from traditional handicrafts and Latino culture. “My work focuses on females, conveying their feelings and expressing the emotional intensity of their experiences.” Ari’s artwork has been exhibited in Mexico, the USA, Canada, Italy, France and Spain. Besides her interest in the visual arts, Ari has a great passion for multiculturalism and events that foment and promote culture. She has created art events such as “Make It Happen”, celebrating International Women’s Day in March 2015 and an annual multicultural project between Mex/Can: “The International Day of the Dead Tour & Exhibit on Granville Island.”
