Canto Vivo | The VLACC Choir

Canto Vivo – The VLACC Choir – is a non-audition choir formed with the goal of creating a community around the love for Latin American music. Canto Vivo’s music director Sérgio Pires holds a doctoral degree in choral conducting from Boston University and degrees in Musicology and Music Education from Brazilian institutions.

Founded in February of 2017 the group has created a strong sense of community between the singers. Among its current and past members, there are immigrants from over 15 different countries from Latin America and beyond! Rehearsals are an opportunity for making friends in Vancouver and joining a group of friendly music lovers.

The repertoire showcases popular and traditional songs from all over Latin America in Spanish and Portuguese, many of them arranged by Sérgio, especially for the group. Canto Vivo has performed at numerous venues around Vancouver, including the Museum of Vancouver, the main branch of the Vancouver Public Library, and the Britannia Community Centre.

Rehearsals happen weekly on Wednesday evenings at the Britannia Community and Services Centre, on the unceded and ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsliel-Wahtuth peoples.

Please email if you’d like more information about the choir.
