How the immigrant experience has shaped Latin American artists working in Canada

Following the success of Re:Location Season 1, the Vancouver Latin American Cultural Centre (VLACC) presents Season 2 of our documentary series. Starting November 2024 on YouTube and on this page, this season profiles five emerging Latin American artists navigating their careers in Canada, exploring themes of identity, culture, and creative growth. Each month through March 2025, a new short documentary will be released, adding to VLACC’s efforts to build essential reference material on Latin American artists in Canada.

Meet the artists:

Alvaro Rojas (Music): Composer blending diverse influences.
Andy Alvarez (Film): Filmmaker telling culturally resonant stories.
Pedro Chamale (Theatre): Playwright and performer exploring belonging.
Carol Mendes (Dance): Choreographer pushing movement boundaries.
Yaimel López (Visual Arts): Visual artist capturing transformation.

Join us in experiencing the journeys that make Re:Location Season 2 unforgettable—special thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts for the funding of this project.

New videos will be released every month from November 2024 through March 2024.
