VLACC is proud to present Rhythms of Brazil, a dynamic, interactive event in collaboration with Downtown Surrey Business Improvement Association, where you’ll learn the basics of the pandeiro, a traditional Brazilian percussion instrument. Guided by the talented Daniella Gramani, participants will get hands-on experience and learn one popular Brazilian song.
The celebration continues with a live performance by the captivating Brazilian singer Sara Magal, who will invite workshop participants to join her on stage and perform the very song they’ve just learned! Sara will also delight the audience with a vibrant set of other Brazilian favourites, filling the plaza with energy and soul.
Whether you’re new to Brazilian rhythms or already have samba in your soul, this joyful gathering is for you. Come celebrate Surrey’s cultural richness and leave with new rhythms in your heart!

About the artists
Sara Magal is a dynamic Brazilian singer and songwriter based in Vancouver since 2016. Originally from Brasília, she released her first album, “Cavalo Preto” in 2014, winning Best Vocal Performer at the Rádio Nacional FM Festival the same year. Her music is a vibrant fusion of samba, bossa nova, forró, jazz, and other styles. She’s known for her knack for reimagining traditional tunes with innovative arrangements, always adding a Brazilian twist that makes each piece uniquely her own. Whether performing live or recording new tracks, Sara brings a fresh, exciting energy to the music scene, making each song distinctly personal and captivating.
Daniella Gramani is a seasoned musician and educator with over 30 years of experience across Brazilian popular music, classical, and contemporary styles. As a performer, she has taken on roles as a violinist, vocalist, and percussionist in ensembles such as Mundaréu. Holding a master’s degree in music and currently pursuing doctoral studies, Daniella blends a rich academic background with a deep passion for cultural expression. Based in Canada, she draws from a wide range of global influences to inform both her performances and teaching. Her dynamic, student-centered approach to music education has reached learners of all ages in schools, universities, and festivals. Daniella believes in the power of music to be both technically rigorous and deeply transformative.
