About the performance

A shy and hesitant woman takes a step into a new world and is swept off her feet by the seductive, sinuous dance form known as tango. Her journey is a celebration of human connection brought to vibrant life by live musicians and a singer, along with evocative multimedia projections.

Born in the bordellos and the working class arrabales of Buenos Aires, tango has evolved and changed with successive artists, surviving government blacklists and cultural suppression to re-emerge as a vital life force, electric with passion and pleasure.

In milongas (sites where tango is performed) disparate groups of people come together in an embrace of sensuality, beauty, and connection. Choreographer Agustina Videla invites dance lovers around the globe to experience an evening of this incendiary, immersive dance, sharing the value of social dance, and inspiring individuals to join the dance floor.

Social Tango offers a space for spontaneous eruptions of music and joy, transforming each venue where the work is performed into a timeless place where the past and present sidle up to each other in an evocative mix of reverberating symmetry and silken melancholy.
