Faces of VLACC: Silene Razo
Silene Razo is a Mexican dancer, actress, and emerging choreographer based in Vancouver. Since immigrating to Canada in 2017, she has become a familiar presence in the Latin dance and performing arts community. As co-director of Ome Dance, a contemporary duet with Judith Colibrí, Silene has been featured in numerous events and festivals, including Dancing on the Edge, Winnipeg Fringe, and Vancouver Fringe.
This fall, Ome Dance will perform The Catrina and the Whispers of Flowers at the 2025 STAND Festival. Inspired by the Day of the Dead, the piece reflects on memory, grief, and cultural continuity through contemporary dance. The performance takes place on Tuesday, November 4 at 8:20 PM at The Annex.
Silene describes her experience performing in VLACC-supported projects as deeply meaningful and formative. Through these opportunities, she has connected with a broader network of Latin American artists and feels more rooted in a community that shares cultural, artistic, and creative values.
She sees VLACC as a vital cultural presence that helps reveal the richness and diversity of Latin America. For her, each country offers its own treasures, and VLACC plays a unique role in creating space for discovery, exchange, and connection.
A graduate of the Contempodanza School in Mexico City, Silene has performed in Mexico, Japan, the U.S., and the Czech Republic. She is currently developing a solo piece about motherhood with support from the CADA/West BIPOC Residency and continues to perform with Foolish Operations in Paper Playground.
When she’s not on stage or in rehearsal, Silene enjoys spending time with friends and family, exploring the city, and keeping her body moving, even if it’s just dancing in the kitchen!
