Faces Of VLACC: Yesenia Flórez
Meet Yesenia Flórez, a musician, artist, and songwriter born in Bucaramanga, Colombia. In 2023, she migrated to Vancouver with the aim of advancing her musical career, having to adapt not only to a new city but also to a bustling arts scene.

Through the process of launching her career in Canada, VLACC has been a key supporter of her craft, offering exposure and the opportunity to connect with the local Latin American community. One of her most recent performances has been as a guest artist at the annual choir concert ALMA, Songs of the Soul.
For Yesenia, VLACC plays an important role in the community, not only by fostering connections among artists and Latin Americans in Vancouver, but also by constantly striving to share the beauty of Hispanic and Brazilian cultures with the wider Canadian society. She believes that VLACC’s team and programming “honor our richness, our stories, our music, our traditions and genuinely work to build and uplift the Latin American community, celebrating its cultural depth, value, and vibrancy.”
Music is much more than work for Yesenia, it is her passion and how she keeps her culture alive. The sound of her project is deeply rooted in Latin American folklore and blended with the textures of world music. Yesenia wants her music to communicate the pride she feels for her culture, she says: “ I want people, when they hear me, when they truly see me to take a piece of my country with them… carried in their ears, held in their hearts.”

Yesenia is currently working on the two final songs of her first EP, which she plans to release in early 2026. Four of her original songs are already out Promesas Sueltas, Broma Final, Ritual and Mi Zamba available on all streaming platforms. Each song is an intimate reflection of her roots, voice, and journey.
