This warm and energetic workshop is designed to offer self-reflection, discovery, and an inspiring human connection experience. We will warm up our bodies from the inside out with exciting Latin music and play with movement dynamics that will create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone to enjoy and dance. This workshop will honour our Latin roots through deep connections, movement research, and music. All bodies, ethnicities, levels, and genders are welcome. Short Bio

Carla Alcántara is a Mexican multidisciplinary artist, emerging choreographer, photographer, videographer, and educator. Born and raised in Mexico City and moved to the unceded traditional territories of the xwməθkwəy̓ əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations or so-called Vancouver in 2021. Director of TEMPO Dance & Visual Art, a project-based company that collaborates with different artists, mixing contemporary dance and visual art to create meaningful yet accessible art to express, communicate and connect with people.

Carla has trained with numerous teachers and choreographers worldwide in techniques like contemporary dance, Jazz, ballet, hip-hop, tap, theatre, and acting. She has gratefully performed and participated in creative processes of artists, choreographers, and companies, including “Lux Boreal” (Tijuana, Mexico) with whom she collaborated as a resident dancer and photographer for three years, “8 Proyecto GATO” (Mexico City), “ARCOS Dance (Austin, TX), “Nohbords” (Mexico City), “La Silla Danza” (Tijuana, Mexico), Charlotte Boye-Christensen (Vancouver, Canada), VLACC (Vancouver, Canada), and in festivals like “Spring Works” (Ontario, Canada) “All over the Map” (Vancouver, Canada) “Without Walls” (San Diego, Ca), 12 Min Max (Vancouver, Canada), SIBU International Dance Festival (Malaysia), “Cuerpo al Descubierto” (Mexico City), “Trolley Dances”/ San Diego Dance Theatre, “Cuerpos en Tránsito” (Tijuana), among others.

Carla has taught dance to all ages in private schools, community centres, and art facilities in Mexico, Canada, and the USA for over eight years, with a passion for guiding students through technique yet imaginative and creative pathways to develop their artistic selves. Nowadays, she is grateful to be part of the board of the “Training Society of Vancouver” and teach modern dance at Shadbolt Centre for the Arts while developing her own artistic speech through choreography and visual art projects.
