Re:Location Free Online Premiere Episode 3 – Sal Ferreras

Inducted into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame in 2003, Sal Ferreras is a Puerto Rican-Canadian musician, producer, composer and educator who came to Canada in 1972.

He has performed in almost every musical genre on the Canadian music scene with collaborations that included classical music, world music, jazz, new music, indigenous music, improvisation, folk, and children’s music.

Sal Ferreras was the principal percussionist of the CBC Vancouver Orchestra. He toured as a member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, Viveza, and the World Drums percussion orchestra. He was the artistic director of the Four Host First Nations Aboriginal Pavilion during the Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2010.

As an academic, Sal Ferreras is the former Provost and VP Academics at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and former Dean of the Vancouver Community College School of Music. He earned a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from the University of British Columbia in 2005 and is a regular advisor on cultural policy for several cultural organizations.
