Art Talk – Resistencias: Music, Art, and Politics in Latin America
May 20, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Join us on Friday, May 20 at 7:00 pm at the Canucks Family Education Centre (1655 William St, Vancouver) for our first in-person Art Talk – Resistencias: Music, Art, and Politics in Latin America.
During the sixties and seventies, many Latin American countries faced one of the darkest periods in their recorded history. Military dictatorships in Argentina, Brazil, and Chile –to name only a few– targeted the youth as a potential threat to their imposing goals. This was a context of global revolutions, activism, and confrontations that, albeit the harsh levels of oppression, managed to subtly use art without any boundaries, integrating the visual, the written, and the auditive.
This is a FREE event. Please get your free ticket at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/art-talk-resistencias-music-art-and-politics-in-latin-america-tickets-325995680857
Jairo Salazar, art historian and music lover, will facilitate a conversation about the most prominent bands emerging from these grim realities. They used art to transcend the musical by engaging with the visual, the manual, and the participatory role of the spectator in communion with their aesthetic expressions.
