One of her primary goals is to ensure that the Latin American roots are kept alive for the children of our community and promote our Latin American culture with other communities.
Special guest: Rocio Quevedo was born in a little desert town in Mexico, where black widows, scorpions, and little lizards were the entertainment in the backyard. Although she has lived in Canada for over a decade, she still misses the desert sun. After getting married and moving from Vancouver to Toronto, Toronto to Calgary, Calgary to Winnipeg, Winnipeg to Vancouver, her mom is right in saying, “Mija, you are at the right place, with the right people.” As a lover of nature and a former ESL teacher with a bachelor of arts in English language teaching, majoring in bilingual education, she is passionate about learning more about culture, languages, and everything that connects us and makes us human, especially dance. This passion has walked her through many different paths in life, including being a dance instructor and performer, cook and server, co-owner of a distribution house, educational assistant, and currently, family programmer and volunteer coordinator in a non-profit organization. She is a mother of a very fun, 6-year-old little scientist, wife of her best friend, and furry mama of a 13-year-old maltipoo named Cheeks.
