FACES OF VLACC | Cristina Cury

Meet Cristina Cury, former volunteer, current Board Member, and founder of the consulting firm Mandarina Global. Cristina and her husband, Andre, have been involved with VLACC since 2016, when they first arrived in Canada from Brazil. Much like VLACC’s mission, Cristina strives, through her work and personal life, to represent the best her culture offers: warmth, a genuine welcoming spirit, and the desire to serve and connect. Being a part of our organization allows Cristina to share her sense of pride with others: “I am deeply proud of Brazilian arts and culture, and I feel very enthusiastic about being able to share it with Canadians.”

VLACC has not only helped Cristina connect with the Brazilian community in Vancouver, it has also enriched her knowledge of Latin America’s cultural diversity. As she explains, “each country has its own treasures, and the discovery process is endless.” One of the many ways that VLACC’s programming encourages a deeper appreciation of Latin American cultures is through showcasing the work of local and international Latinx artists. Beyond providing them a platform, the artists collaborating with us are respected, valued, and paid fairly. This reciprocal relationship is reflected in the quality of our programs. “VLACC’s concerts are the BEST,” says Cristina, who believes that the most fun events involve dancing and singing.

VLACC is currently looking for dedicated community leaders like Cristina who are interested in joining the Board of Directors. If you have experience in governance, fundraising, finance, HR, or nonprofit management, this is your chance to make a real impact. To apply, send a short intro and resume or LinkedIn profile to info@vlacc.ca.
