FACES OF VLACC | Catalina Parra
Meet Catalina Parra, a multifaceted member of the VLACC community who has worn many hats—volunteer, artist, facilitator, and supporter. For Catalina, VLACC has been more than just an arts organization; it has been a safe, welcoming space that has inspired her to explore her artistic talents and build meaningful connections.
“VLACC fosters spaces for inter-cultural dialogue, not only within the diverse Latinx diaspora but also between Latinx and non-Latinx communities. It opens spaces for vulnerable and real conversations about our role as Latinx-Canadians in building respectful relationships with Indigenous peoples on the unceded and ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations,” Catalina shares.
As an emerging writer, Catalina explores reflections, poetry, and short stories, which she publishes on her blog, catacuenta.com. She’s also active on Instagram as @cata.cuenta. Outside of her creative pursuits, she enjoys dancing, working out, and spending time with her community.
Professionally, Catalina works at the University of British Columbia as an Administrative Coordinator for the Faculty of Medicine’s Office of Respectful Environments, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (REDI). Born and raised in Colombia, she brings her passion for developing inclusive and culturally rich environments into both her personal and professional life.
Catalina’s journey with VLACC exemplifies the supportive community we aim to cultivate—one where art, dialogue, and friendship thrive.
