FESTA PLURAL: Brazilian Edition featuring amarElas and DJ André Brasil

June 24 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Join us Saturday, June 24th, when VLACC will launch FESTA PLURAL, an inclusive music and poetry event. This first edition will highlight Brazil’s music and spoken-word performance with a female singers’ band. Some special poetry reading and two sets from DJ André Brasil will make this an uplifting evening for all.

The venue is St James Community Square in Kitsilano, a former church with beautifully wood-panelled space that makes for wonderful acoustics and a warmly welcoming atmosphere. Cash bar available.

FESTA PLURAL: Brazilian Edition will be a 3-hour event kicking off the summer with contagious Brazilian music, starting slow and easy, but building to a summer-samba pitch. Formed just last year, amarElas is a band led by female singers that have already made a big splash performing in and around Vancouver. These four superb singers present a diverse repertoire of Brazilian and other international songs, original and covers, exploring feminism, immigration, and identity themes with verve and vivacious wit. This event will be an opportunity to present songs made by women, for them, famous for their voices, and also pay tribute to one of the most important singers and songwriters of Brazil – Rita Lee.
